I'm trying to install photoshop cs3 and it starts off alright but then halts and asks me to 'install photoshop cs3....' !

What's going on? It knows it is the cs3 disk...

You click install or "run" to install it.

I wud do this:

* click on start button and click on run

* type control panel and hit enter

* doucle click add remove programs

* the add remove dialog window opens, look for Photoshop CS3 or any other version of photoshop, if there is one, remove it by clicking change/ remove button.

* Now insert the PS CS3 disk and if it autoplays, follow onscreen instructions... if it does not autoplay, browse into the disk and look for an icon that says "setup" or "install" etc. Double click it. Then follow the onscreen instructions.

* If its a cracked/ pirated disk, then it might ask u for a registration no. Browse into the disk again and look for a folder called "Crack". Go inside that folder and look for any text document, there will be some files and a text document inside crack folder. Open the text document and follow its instructions to crack Photoshop. :D

Now it should work. It does when I do it:D

Besides the suggestion to look for basic tutorials on the internet, you might want to get a couple of books or take an introductory workshop like at a local community college.

Some books to consider: Photoshop for Dummies (make sure you get the book that matches whatever version you are getting.) the Dummies books aren't really "Dumb" they are designed to help regular people who want to learn but aren't sure how or where to start. It depends on what you want to do... After Effects really doesn't have much to offer the general consumer and is more targetted to professional artists, but Elements has some nice stuff in it.

I would avoid any of the " ... For Dummies" books. They're typically not that good. I unfortunately don't have any good suggestions for you, though, as far as Photoshop books go.

First off, CS3 is all you need. Elements is actually a cheaper, chopped down version of CS3. After Effects is a program used to create special effects in movies and what not...so ya don't need that either.

I would also not recommend the "..for dummies" book. It isn't bad, but there are MUCH better options. I would suggest buying two books: Adobe's Classroom in a Book and Photoshop: Studio Techniques (by Ben Willmore).

Classroom in a Book will get you started on the basics very quickly. Once you get through a few chapters, start tackling Studio Techniques.

First, you gotta use the lasso tool to select the one you want to remain in color, then go to Selection Menu above %26 find Reverse Selection, then you can make the other things in your photo in B%26W. Cheers!

When he says new canvas he means a new well canvas

if you do not see the layers window in your workspace you can go windows%26gt; layers and you will see it come up

to creat a new layer you can use the hot key command ctrl+shift+alt+n do that 3 times and you will have 3 new layer

Not weird. You have the file association that causes that. ~

The icon tells you which program a file is associated with. Like .doc with Word, and .xls with Excel etc.

You can't add an additional front directly. But if you should download a font type onto your PC, it would be accessible from photoshop.
You cannot just add the font that came with the file. Unless you go in a create the font from scratch, using that images as a template, there is no way to add that font. You will have to track down the font and add that font to your system.

The image file does not contain all the fonts that were used. If you have the name of the font, try searching google for the font name or for 'free fonts' there are hundreds of them out there.

try using some filters like gaussian blurr

you can also use the burn, smudge, sponge, sharpen tools as brushes to apply manually. i great technique is to use a pen tablet with photoshop. you can achieve results super quick. there is no one button or one filter to run. each case will be unique and probably require many steps.
Just keep playing around until you get the result you want.

you could try this yourself with gimp, select both images being used, check that they are the same format and resolution , like jpg at 72+ pixels, open background image of airplane, then open person, select all of image and paste over plane image in new layer, then erase around person, and zoom in for detail editing, move and resize or adjust color and contrast, save as xcf, then save copy as jpg,

G.I.M.P. (GNU Image Manimulation Program) is free, open source image editing software that runs on all platforms.

You can do almost all of the things you can do in photoshop and it will open *.psd file.

I have used GIMP in the past and found that it was able to do everything I needed. The menus and options take a bit of getting used to if you are familiar with Photoshop, but there is plenty of help and tutorials online.

You just need to look carefully on list with file formats.

Click on "Save as..." button, and then in opened window choose JPG format.

That depends on what version of photoshop you have! Try save as and then select the file format in the dropdown!
I know in my photoshop I DO have a jpg option, when you do a "save as" its in the pull down extension menu.
For starters, when you said "I tried save, save and save optimized" that means that you are using ImageReady and not Photoshop (this one don't have a Save Optimized option)

To have a jpg format as an option, go to menu Window %26gt; Optimize and then slect from the Optimize panel Format; there you will find JPEG options, set your image and then use File%26gt; Save Optimized as...

That's all you need to do.

The software is amazing, and has lots of useful tools. As for showing my artwork, I am not an artist, I mainly use Photoshop to edit blemishes or certain things in my pictures at home (Example - I have a picture of my friend and he wants to print it out full size, but he has a big pimple on the end of his nose, so I go in edit the picture, and pimple is gone, at least on the picture hahaha.)

You should first select a part of the picture you want to paste into with the marquee selection tool in either shape or freehand. That way the picture you are pasting with will only insert into the selected area and not just over the whole picture. It's easy enough once you've practised it a few times. You may have to re-size the picture file you are pasting with to better fit into the picture you are pasting into. Got that? Good luck!

PS, if you paste into the photo the pasted bit should remain floating until you click off the photo or merge layers in the menu. Perhaps you need some additional tutoring in Photoshop. See if you can gain access to a manual in a local public library.

you can select coloring in psp too. it depends if you use it alot and you are really going to learn to use everything. then photoshop is nicer. there's also photoshop elements which is comparable to paintshop pro. Once i started using cs2 i never went back. before that i had psp and elements and id switch back and forth. all three use alot of the same plugins which is nice. you can do alot with psp or elements but if you can afford it and are really going to take the time to learn it get photoshop

Well, it depends on how much you are willing to spend for the software. PSP only costs about $90 while Photoshop costs $600+. I'll stick with PSP, thank you very much.

Well Photoshop has more features than gimp, but Gimp is also pretty good. The only thing it lacks is a decent eraser, it doesn't have a magic eraser or a background eraser, but it does have a magic wand which kind of helps. but anyways, Gimp is less complicated than photoshop. You can still make animated gifs and stuff. but in my opinion, Gimp is pretty good compared to photoshop, considering the fact that you don't have to pay for Gimp and it's not just a free trial. And gimp has features too that Photoshop doesn't have like film strips and coffee stains.

Too much too mention as it all depends on what youreally want to do with it..Gimp and other software like Picasa are as good as they are worth, and considering they are free they are verygood. If your looking to create high quality images and serious proffesional editing then Photoshop would be up your street..

My advice would be to try gimp and see if you can do what you need and then try Picasa..If you still can't do what you need to do then Photoshop will be right up your street..

I am basically a hobbyist with intermediate experience with Photoshop...a novice with Illustrator. Using CS3

I am trying to take an (pretty complex) image of an old b/w engraving (scanned into Photoshop) and move it into Illustrator, create a live trace then color it as a vector graphic.

I want to try to take advantage of Illust. live paint and probably blends to replace many of the black engraving lines that were used for shadowing.

The original engraved image is pretty complex, consisting of at least 9 distinct areas.

Where do I start? I think I want to make each of those areas a separate layer, work with them individually and then put them together into one image.

Do I separate the layers in Photoshop or Illustrator? How do I remove or clear the engraved lines (shading) within the areas I want to paint so I can blend for the effect I want to achieve?

I have been spinning my wheels trying to get started...not knowing which program to start this project in.

I would separate the layers in Photoshop rather than Illustrator. It's easier with the layers in Photoshop.

What's probably going to look the best is if you take the pen tool %26 just open the image up in Illustrator %26 redraw the image. (Lock the bottom image you are drawing on top of %26 trace it with the pen tool) Draw it with the pen tool on top of the image(zoom in for better accuracy). It may take some time but it will look 10 times better than the live trace.

Live trace is just "Ok". I've never had much luck making the images look great converting them with trace, even when tweeking all the settings.

In order to use a font, you have to install it on your Windows system. It will be available throughout windows, including Word Perfect and Photoshop Elements. To install the font, simply unpack it (if it is Zipped or otherwise compressed), and then drag the font file (or files) into your C:\Windows\Fonts directory. This will create a copy of the files in your Fonts directory. Then you can delete the originally-downloaded files (the copies will still be in your Fonts folder). Installing a new font won鈥檛 hurt your system; you don鈥檛 need to be afraid to install it. Besides, you can always delete later, if you get tired of it.

use the magnetic lasso tool to cut out the image of the house. right click the house, click layer via copy, creating another layer. make the rainbow another layer, and on your layer toolbar make sure the house goes about the rainbow so it's in front. hope that didn't sound confusing.. i wish it was easier for me to help you.

You have to merge the layers. If I can remember correctly it's somewhere under one of the options.
ok first thing first make a copy of layer of the house (im thinking you know how to do this) and then make a new layer (nothing goes on this layer at the min)

next open up the image of the rainbow copy it using the polyganol lasso tool NOT the magnetic lasso tool, to do this you simply follow the outside edges of the rainbow. dont leave any gaps as it wont select it.

Adobe Photoshop is the undisputed, undefeated, %26 longtime prefered graphic editor by professional world wide.

Problem ... it takes years to master it %26 is way overkill for the home user.

I have both Photoshop %26 PSP .... for quick simple tasks I'll use PSP %26 for more complex features I will look to Photoshop.

There is nothing that PSP can do that Photoshop doesn't do as well.

If you are looking for more features (there are far less) you won't find them in PSP ... only more ease of use.

I'm not sure, it's been a while since I've used Paint Shop Pro, but I have used Photoshop CS2 and it's quite nice. Although, why pay so much for one of those when you can get the Gimp for FREE! It's basically just as good as Photoshop and PSP.
Both PSP and PS are awesome programs. I can do the same thing in PSP that I can do in PS, often in less steps as well. I feel both programs have a lot to offer a web/graphic artist. In my opinion, PSP was easier to learn so if you need to learn a program quick, try it. A plus on both programs is that there are literally thousands of tutorials for each.

It really depends on your technical skills. If you learn super fast and easy then PS maybe perfect for you. If you want an awesome program, either are great!

Also, on a side note... PS filters and plugins are compatible with PSP!
CS2 is a helluva lot more expensive and alot harder to learn! But, then, it can do a lot more stuff and alot better. I've had both (still do!) You'd be utterly amazed at the power of CS2 to shrink a picture faithfully (like, for website use)...and to create gradients...just for two items. And I haven't even learned to use CS2 to its full potential.

Hello, I have a photoshop website template, and what I want to do is change the color of a few of the images on there. By default, they are a yellow color (with a gradient effect). All I want to do is change the color from yellow to pink (and keep the same gradient efftec). Is there a simple way to do this, or a website I can go to try to do this? Thanks

PhotoShop does have many features and tools to fix faded photographs - depending on how much information is still in the image it can do miracles.

Usually I would try AutoContrast and/or AutoLevels. Sometimes this works well and is all you need. (Image -%26gt;Adjustments-%26gt;Auto Contrast)

Otherwise try duplicating the background layer and changing the blending mode to "multiply".

Those are two starting points.

Unsharp mask filter is a good place to try to fix the blur. (Filter -%26gt; Sharpen -%26gt; UnSharp Mask...)

I dont have much photoshop of web designing experience, but I've taken it upon myself to build a website for my business.

I have a website template which I have loaded into photoshop. The template has four buttons along the top that are supposed to link to the four different pages. I have already designed all four pages of my website, but I dont know how to make the button open up the page. I know i will need to link that button to that page in some way.

Photoshop is not an HTML editor. It's an image editor. You can design images for the site but you'll have to find yourself an HTML editor like Dreamweaver / MS-Frontpage or learn HTML (it's not so difficult) yourself.

In photoshop, you can have 3 layers, the white background layer; the image layer, and the text layer; if you place the text layer over the image layer, and the image layer over the background layer; by double clicking the image layer you could set the transperantcy of the layer; lowering it to 75% will do what you want.

What your asking, I think, is for the photo inside the letters. That's called mask. I just checked the website for photofiltre and it doesn't support mask.

If you want a free photo program, download GIMP and then just google -- gimp mask -- for tutorial.

If you have Adobe Illustrator, it can also mask.

There's a tutorial on this at the link below which contains images for guidance. The best program to use is Adobe Illustrator CS2 or CS3 which both contain Live Trace. Live Trace used to be a standalone program called Adobe Streamline. This was improved and integrated into Illustrator, and now it copes pretty well with photos and very well with line art.

It's a little hard to work out without actually seeing what you're doing ... I'll go with the most obvious answer ... are you definitely in CMYK/RGB and not using Greyscale?

If you are in greyscale, it will still show you 'selecting' colour, but automatically convert it to grey, as that is the image mode you are using. You can change your colour mode by going to 'Image' and then 'Mode'.

I don't know if I would chance it. You know, if something seems too good to be true, it probably IS.

My concern of course would be that the program being offered has already been activated and registered, thus preventing you from doing so.

Another thing to consider is, is it just the program CD in a case, or is it a full boxed version? If it is truly a factory sealed, boxed retail version of the program, then it may be okay. See what the sellers rating is, check the feedback, maybe even contact some customers.

As always, remember, buyer beware.

Adobe Indesign and Adobe Photoshop will work together nicely (especially CS3). They are just totally different programs used for different purposes. Photoshop is generally used for raster grapics/photos/effects; whereas Indesign is generally used for layout.

If you would like to use a Photoshop file within Indesign, then you need to

1. create a new document in Indesign (File-%26gt;New)

2. Place the PSD into that document (File-%26gt;Place)

3. with in the Place Document dialog box you'll have to navigate to the desired PSD file and select it, please note the two check boxes at the bottom of the dialog box. It would be a good idea to check the "Show Import Options" box. This will allow you to set the initial layer transparency within Indesign. You can always change these settings in Indesign by going to Object-%26gt;Object Layer Options.

You cannot use the File:Open command to get Photoshop files into InDesign, you must make a New document and then drag-drop your PS file into it or use the File:Place command. Do that, and you'll find that PS and ID play superbly well together!
Adobe is a proprietary software so it doesn't play nice when you try to use other applications. You might be able to take a screenprint in Adobe and paste it into cs3 to use it. That's the only thing I can think of unless you save your work to a different, more general file type in Adobe. Good luck!

um, i'm afraid you wasted your time by doing that in photoshop.

photoshop isn't a webpage creator, it's an image editing program.

you can't convert an image file into a html page, because they are completely different types of files.

you can display the images within a html file using the %26lt;img src="http://wherever.com/filename.jpg"%26gt; tag but if you've created buttons, text, or anything that's meant to be interactive/clickable within this 'photoshop website' they will not work as seperate components - it'll just be one big picture. in fact a big image which will load slowly compared to a proper website page.

you should be using something like frontpage or dreamweaver to create webpages, into which you can add images, text, links, sounds and so on.

With Photoshop 7, you've probably got Adobe Gamma in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Calibration\Adobe Gamma Loader. It might be in the Control Panel as well.

Options: ACE engine, perceptual, use black point compensation checked, use dither checked.

Looking at those settings, maybe you're using absolute rendering intent.

I've written color profile software so I know a thing or two about them.

open the image in photoshop go to the layers menu and chose create new layer from background, then go to the layers pallet click on the layer which should be layer 0 then in the top right corner of the layers pallet change the opacity to 50% or how ever transparent you want it to be, then go to file and save or save for web and save the image as a png,

now your ability to see the transparency of the image depends on what program you use to view it Internet Explorer 6 and below don't support png transparency IE7 and just about every other browser does. As for image viewers its a matter of trial and error some will and some wont.

I do this by building up a selection with the circular selection tool. Hold shift to add to the selection. Select circular corners, then rectangular center section.

make it in 5000 x 4000 pixels dimension with resolution between 400 and 500. This will help it to look clean and professional while printing. The image size will come around 30 mb. If your computer has a good processor speed (more than 5 ghz). You can change the canvas size to the original size you want (500 x 400 cms) and can use lesser image dimensions with res 300 to 500, but the image weight will go in gbs. around 10 gb may be.

You can make it 50cmx40cm but make sure you have the option of large file type selected when saving. To achieve maximum resolution, However, it will all depend on the printer capabilities to get accurate coloring and resolution.

5 Meters by 4 Meters is pretty big, and you may want to send it to a professional printing place like AlphaGraphics to get the best output.
You should always make your poster a lot bigger then what the actual print is going to be.

Paint Shop Pro is very similar and way more cheaper, I think under 100 bucks you can buy it. The latest version is great. But to be honest there are many free clones out there, you don't even need to afford such expensive software, but if you want to go pro and u really need it I suggest the version 7.0 of photoshop is old but it isn't much different from the newer versions, what matters is the basics.

When you install Photoshop, it registers itself with various file extensions (*.jpg, *.tif, *.gif.....) so that whenever you tries to open these extension file by double clicking on them they will by default open in Photoshop.

Some others will probably give you a better answer as I use an Apple and full Photoshop. However, you should not have to download directly from the camera into Elements. Just download from the camera, or preferably from a card reader, to wherever you want to put the files.

Then in Elements go to File - Open and select the file where you stored the photos. You can then open any photo you want.
