how do I make an image transparent using photoshop?

open the image in photoshop go to the layers menu and chose create new layer from background, then go to the layers pallet click on the layer which should be layer 0 then in the top right corner of the layers pallet change the opacity to 50% or how ever transparent you want it to be, then go to file and save or save for web and save the image as a png,

now your ability to see the transparency of the image depends on what program you use to view it Internet Explorer 6 and below don't support png transparency IE7 and just about every other browser does. As for image viewers its a matter of trial and error some will and some wont.

If you go to Image%26gt; adjustments%26gt; Hue Saturation

then play with the levels of the hue.
Change the Opacity,

1. Select the layer

2. On the top bar their is a opacity slider

3. On the Layers box their is one as well
