Suggestions for Photoshop workhorse PC?

I'm considering a DELL XPS as a photoshop workhorse machine: 4GB RAM, lots of hard disk, low end graphics card. Anybody like to voice their opinion about this configuration? Is the XPS the best off-the-shelf photoshop machine out there, or is there something better for under $3K?

Just as good for much cheaper. All you need is a modern processor and at least 2 GB ram (windows 32 bit can only use 3.3GB). Walmart has them on the shelf for half of what you are ready to pay.

In my opinion the XPS series is geared more for gaming than business applications like photoshop. So you might try an optiplex or even a vostro from Dell.

4 Gig of ram is good. I would also get the fasted Dual core processor you can.

Just experiment on Dell.com and find the right deal for you with the right hardware. They are always running sales on some model or another.

Good Luck,

Does it Have to be off the shelf? Do you need to spend $3000.00 dollars? How about building one for a whole lot less, and spin Photoshop like a toy? Or are we talkin' the XPS laptop version? I'd get a Asus C90S for around $890 bucks. It's the first laptop to use desktop processors, and you can change them out yourself, easily. Also upgrade them. Same with the graphics card. Ram amount support: 3GB's.
