Any alternative to adobe photoshop?

I have the sims 2 and I want to get the bodyshop,

but you supposedly need to buy the adobe photoshop. I am only a kid and don't have a job, so i don't have the 50, 60 dollars to spend on it. i don't want to do anything illegal either.i am only looking at adobe because of the bodyshop. is there any alternative downloads that will work on the sims2 bodyshop? does it even need adobe to work?

Just some questions i was wondering if anyone knew.

Fireworks if you want to pay a few hundred us dollars.

The Gimp (http://www.gimp.org) is open source and free.
This website is a list of all freeware products that can be substituted with there premium counterparts, like Photoshop.

And Gimp is definitely up there.
