Help with photoshop!!!?

It won't let me paint!! I was switching back and forth between screens and the pointer won't change from the hand. I can switch tools but it still remains the hand even though i never use the hand! AHHH how can I fix it???? It only happens if i don't minimize the photoshop screen first I think but still this is really anoying. Ive restarted the program multiple times and it's still doing it....HELP! I have photoshop elements 5.0

do you have the original software? i would try to uninstall and reinstall the program if anything else fails.
